    HP PMA HP-Propylene Maximization additive (HP-PMA) is designed for enhanced propylene yield in FCCU. At present, HPCL is importing the additive for FCCU units. This additive was designed based on fine tuning acidity, accessibility and attrition of the raw materials. Indigenous development made HPCL self-reliant and contributed towards GOI initiatives like Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Make in India.     HP DEMU Existing demulsifiers are not effective for heavy and high salt content crude like Basrah Heavy, due to higher amount of natural surfactants like asphaltenes. In order to improve the efficiency of desalter operations through chemical route, particularly for heavy and high salt content crudes, HP DEMU has been developed in house at HPGRDC.     HP FurnoKare v2 Deposition of lower thermal conductivity material such as particulate matter, coke, metal impurities and fouling material on heater tubes is common phenomena in the high temperature boilers and furnaces. As the thickness of the scales increases, the heat exchange between flue gases and metal surface of the heater tubes and which ultimately reduces the temperature of the crude oil flowing inside the heater tube. The deposit in the form of scale is not desired, since they are poor conductors of heat, cause reduced efficiency, and are often responsible for burned tubes or plates.     HP-PPD-ULSD HP-PPD-ULSD is a Pour Point Depressant formulation for HSD to meet winter and specialty grade diesel. The formulation uses advanced polymeric composition to reduce diesel pour point more efficiently.     HP DEHAZER HPGRDC has developed a novel and cost-effective HP DEHAZER for appearance improvement of white oils. This additive finds applications especially at white oil receiving stations when a hazy product is received. The hazy product generated during pipeline maintenance and commissioning activity doesn’t qualify the appearance test for days (at least 4-5 days) and results in product shortage for handing over. HP DEHAZER is developed to improve the appearance of hazy fuel within short time. There is no existing commercial additive for such application. This novel additive is successfully tried at MPSPL-Pakni receiving station and was able clear about 15000 kl hazy product within span of 2 days.     HP NICKTREAT HPGRDC has developed a novel and cost-effective HP NICKTREAT for Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (FCCUs) in refineries. This additive finds applications in passivation of Ni in FCCU feeds. HP NickTreat is a non-metallic formulation unlike commercial additive. The additive will decrease the yield of hydrogen and dry gas and thus avoid its detrimental effect on the product yields. During this process even contaminant coke also decreases. The performance of HP NickTreat is on par with that of benchmark additive. This novel additive is successfully tried at HPCL Visakh Refinery (VR) in FCCU-II.     Power-95 HPGRDC has developed an additive to boost RON of MS to 95. The additive will bolster HPCL’s product basket in premium fuel segment. poWer 95 can withstand higher compression ratios during the combustion cycle extracting better performance from the engine. power-95 is an eco-friendly non-metallic additive that reduces engine knocking & improves emission, thrust power output.     HP-EGIN HP-EGIN (Ethanol storage & Gasohol corrosion INhibitor) is a cost-effective corrosion inhibitor with superior performance used to mitigate corrosion issues during the storage, blending, and transportation of neat ethanol and ethanol-blended fuels. When dosed along with neat ethanol or gasohol blends (E05, E10, E20), it reduces the corrosion effects on mild steel. The performance evaluation studies using NACE TM-01-72 show B++ rating for the carbon steel metallurgy. HP-EGIN is suitable to be used for different operating temperatures across India (-4 to 50 °C) and the suitability of the inhibitor for different MOCs (Carbon Steel, SS and Brass) was studied using ASTM D6423 for eight months.     HP BCA HP-Bottoms cracking Additive (HP-BCA) is designed for enhanced bottoms conversion in FCCU. At present, HPCL is importing the additive for FCCU units. Additive was designed based on fine tuning acidity, accessibility and attrition of the raw materials. No raw materials were imported for the additive. The developed additive is scaled up to 25 tons and demonstrated at VR-FCC unit.     [HP]2 FCC Catalyst HPCL has developed a [HP]2 FCC Catalyst Technology for high olefin FCC. The catalyst system has application in high severity FCC unit like HPCL patented [HP]2 FCC Technology, DCC (Deep Catalytic Cracking) etc. Field trial in high olefin FCC has given 17.7wt% propylene at 132% design t’put. The field trial of this catalyst as an additive (10% & 15% addition) has given propylene increase by 0.5-0.6wt% and reduction in bottoms by 0.2-1.0wt%.     HP - Flame Plus: A novel combustion improver for LPG has been developed that significantly improves combustion kinetics, flame profile and temperature. The additized LPG showed substantial reduction in cooking time upto 17% and fuel savings upto 9%. The additive is environmentally benign and has improved stability compared to contemporary nano-additives.     HP - RAZOR: Oxy-acetylene remains the preferred choice for metal-cutting applications even though it is expensive and difficult to store and handle. The main drawback of other oxy-fuels (such as LPG, natural gas, etc.) is the considerably lower flame temperatures. As a part of its “Make in India” initiative, HPCL has developed a novel LPG additive, HP-IPCA which not only improves flame temperature but also considerably reduces both LPG and oxygen consumption.     HP - DLA: Sulphur compounds are natural carriers of lubricity in diesel. However, to meet growing environmental concerns, stringent restrictions are being applied on diesel sulphur levels (50 ppm in BS IV/ Euro IV to 10 ppm in BS VI/Euro VI). As a result, inherent lubricity of diesel is adversely affected which is typically compensated by addition of external additives. HPCL has indigenously developed a new family of additive, HP-DLA. The additive is cost-effective and showed significantly improved activity over conventional additives. HP-DLA has been successfully implemented in HPCL, Visakh & Mumbai refineries.     HP - CORRMIT (LPG): Corrosion is one of the major problems in pipeline transportation, which leads to leakage of gases, fuels and often to major accidents. To mitigate this problem, Corrosion Inhibitors (CI) are injected into pipelines at very low dosage level (ppm) that protects the internal surface of pipeline by forming a protective layer. HPGRDC developed a new family of novel, highly efficient corrosion inhibitors, HP-CORRMIT, for fuels such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), Gasoline, Diesel, etc. HP-CORRMIT has successfully being implemented at HPCL’s MHMSPL (LPG pipeline) over 1 year.  (View Brochure) (485 KB) PDF File Opens in a new window


    HP - TRAE Process: HPCL R&D has developed an improved process of HP-TRAE for producing the environment friendly rubber process oils. TRAE-Treated Residue Aromatic extract is one of the aromatic type rubber process oil used in tyre industry. HP-TRAE process is highly selective towards Polycyclic aromatics (PCA) extraction from lube oils. Commercial trials were carried out at Mumbai refinery for the production TRAE grade rubber process oil. HP TRAE process reduces the Poly cyclic aromatic compounds (PCA) by 0.7-0.8 wt% compared to conventional process which results in reduction of overall production cost of rubber process oil.     HP - CORRMIT (White Oil) Unprotected pipelines, whether buried in the ground, exposed to the atmosphere, or submerged in water, are susceptible to corrosion. Without proper maintenance, every pipeline system will eventually deteriorate. HP Corrmit is a corrosion inhibitor injected into cross-country petroleum pipelines transporting Motor Spirit (Petrol), Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO), High Speed Diesel (HSD) & Naphtha etc. with a view to prevent internal corrosion.     HP - FurnOKare: Furnace tube scaling is a commonly encountered problem in refineries, which over a period of time becomes thick deposits. This reduces the heat transfer efficiency of the tubes & the skin temperature increases to the maximum design temperature. To address this, HPCL developed in-house chemical formulation for online cleaning of furnace tubes for removal of scales without shutting down the unit.     HP - DUCER: Fixed bed reactors in refineries are highly prone to plugging issues which lead to increase in pressure drop across the reactors and reduced feed throughput. HPCL’s HPDUCER, provides a solution to the issue of solid deposits in hydroprocessing reactors. The product was successfully demonstrated in DHDS reactors of HPCL Visakh Refinery.     HP - BioActiva: HPCL R&D developed a new bio-additive for the treatment of refinery effluent. The newly developed product consists of adapted microbial consortia along with essential nutrients for boosting the microbial activity. The addition of HP-BioActiva reinvigorates the biological system resulting in reduced levels of BOD, COD, and phenolics.     HP - WMA: Asphalt mixtures are the most widely used material in the construction of pavements for roads. The regular Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) require high manufacturing temperature (around 160 ◦C), which is associated with the release of a large volume of greenhouse gases. Thus, in order to limit these problems, bituminous mixtures with lower manufacturing temperature are required without impacting their mechanical behavior. One possible alternative is the use of Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA), which is manufactured at 20–40◦C lower than the conventional Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA).  (View Brochure) (395 KB) PDF File Opens in a new window


    HP – THERMOPRO: Fouling of refinery process equipment is a common problem resulting in severe economic penalties. Solutions to these issues are currently offered by few foreign vendors and they are process specific. HPCL R&D has developed a novel & cost effective Antifoulant i.e., HP-THERMOPRO to mitigate fouling in heat exchangers. The formulation prevents the reactions contributing to fouling thus leading to superior performance over commercial benchmarks. The product was successfully demonstrated in crude-side & SR-side preheat exchangers at HPCL Visakh refinery.     HP - Thermopro (D): Fouling of refinery process equipment is a common problem resulting in severe economic penalties. Typical problem areas include preheat exchangers, furnaces and reactor beds. Multiple factors impact fouling including equipment design, flow rates, temperature, operational severity and fluid characteristics. Fouling in DHDS is caused by polymerization reactions initiated by fouling precursors such as olefins. Due to polymerisation, the molecular chain length increases to the point that solubility in the DHDS feed is exceeded and deposition occurs. Unsaturates (especially conjugated double bond olefins) originating from cracked streams blended in DHDS feed mainly contribute to extremely high fouling tendency.  (View Brochure) (490 KB) PDF File Opens in a new window


    HP - THERMOPRO (W): Fouling of refinery process equipment is a common problem resulting in severe economic penalties. Modern refineries strive for reliability and processing flexibility with longer run lengths and minimal equipment fouling. Antifoul ant is required to mitigate fouling by keeping them in dispersed state and stopping deposition on the preheat exchanger surfaces. In this regard, HPGRDC has developed a novel, cost effective antifoul ant formulation, HP THERMOPRO-W, especially for mitigating fouling in Waxy crude processing units.     HP - DEWA: A Dewatering Formulation for Crude Storage Tanks. Crude oil is a mixture that consists of hydrocarbons such paraffins, iso-parafins, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes. The crude oil also contains impurities such as sediments, mud, water and heavy metals.     HP – NEUTMAX: Corrosion in the overhead system of crude distillation units is a severe problem which is caused by HCl produced by hydrolysis of chloride salts in crude oil. To mitigate this corrosion, neutralizing amines are dosed at overhead section of the crude unit. HPCL R&D has developed a novel & cost effective neutralizing amine i.e., HP – NEUTMAX keeping in view the neutralizing ability, solubility of the salts and corrosion rate.     HP-FILMMAX: Corrosion in the overhead systems of crude distillation units is typically caused by hydrogen chloride resulting from hydrolysis of naturally occurring chloride salts found in the crude oil. To mitigate the consequent corrosion, neutralizing amines and film forming amines are dosed at overhead section of the crude unit. HPGRDC has developed in-house filming amine formulations (HP-FILMMAX) for overhead corrosion inhibition. The in-house developed HP-FILMMAX has been scaled up to 9 MT for field trials at VR. Trial commenced on November 2020 and continued till May 2021.     HP-FILMMAX HT: Corrosion in the hydrotreating unit is caused by H2S and HCl formed during the hydrodesulphurization and dehydrohalogenation. The mechanism of corrosion inhibitors is the formation of a film which can act as a hydrophobic barrier against corrosive species, such as, H2S and HCl. The major desirable characteristics of any film forming amine formulations includes, corrosion mitigation and strong film formation. Filming Corrosion Inhibitor for hydro processing units DHT and DHDS was developed based on this concept.     HP DWA (150N) Dewaxing is one of the significant processes used in the preparation of petroleum lubricating oils for removal of the wax results in an oil with the lower cloud and pour points. HPGRDC developed a novel cost effective tunable dewaxing aid (HP DWA (150N) and trails were successful for SPO and 150 N grade base oils at PDU unit of MR Lube refinery.     HP DWA (BS) Dewaxing aid is a chemical that assists and enhances the dewaxing process. Some of the functions of DWA are, helps to form proper crystals, improve filtration rate, improve DWO yield and reduce oil content in wax. HPGRDC developed HP DWA (BS) and conducted field trails at PDU of MR Lube refinery for BS grade.     HP - SAN: HP-SAN is an optimized quick hand rub / sanitizer formulation which is improvised to have a feel good factor through effective moisturization, colour and fragrance for skin well-being. The efficacy and residual activity is tested to be better than commercial formulations in killing surface bacteria.     HP - Laundry Sanitizer: HP Laundry Sanitizer is a disinfecting solution for hygienically clean laundry. It is environmental friendly, aesthetically pleasing and cost effective. HP-Laundry Sanitizer exhibited better anti-microbial performance (99.95%) compared to well-known commercial product (99.7%) in the Market.     HP - PurUs: HPGRDC has developed an all-purpose floor cleaner for disinfecting contaminated surfaces keeping in interests the health of HPCL personnel and public to avoid the spread of COVID-19 and other infections. The developed floor cleaner consists of ingredients as per WHO guidelines and kills 99.9% of all virulent strains.     HP – BIOREMEDIA: HP – BIOREMEDIA is a microbial bio-additive developed by HPCL R&D for enhanced degradation of hydrocarbons in sludge. The newly developed product mainly consists of microbial consortia with significant hydrocarbon conversion capabilities that are stabilized by immobilizing on an organic carrier material.     PoWer 99: There is growing demand for Motor Spirit with high octane rating especially in sports & luxury cars where the fuel needs to withstand high compression ratios. In view of this, HPCL developed and launched high octane motor spirit, poWer 99 in India, which has an octane rating of 99, highest ever in the country. Besides reduced knocking and, poWer 99 also gives better fuel efficiency and produce lesser emissions.     PoWer - 100: To fulfil the growing market demand for ultra-high octane gasoline in the premium and sport’s car segment, HPGRDC has indigenously developed an octane boosting additive formulation that can increase the Research Octane Number of BS VI Gasoline to 100. The additized gasoline was launched in September 2021, under the brand name PoWer 100, the highest octane rated gasoline in India. PoWer 100 additive formulation is non-metallic, environment-friendly and non-alcohol based. At the same time, it also conforms fully with requisite BS VI specifications.     HP HyTherm-ω HP HYTherm-ω (omega) is a high-performance synthetic heat transfer fluid designed to meet the demands of liquid or vapor phase systems, and indirect heat transfer. With an operating temperature of 20 °C to 240 °C (59 to 464 °F) in liquid phase systems and an operating temperature of 241 to 300 °C (465 to 572 °F) in vapor phase systems with low freeze point 15 °C (68 °F), HP HYTherm- ω is excellent for use in heat transfer fluid systems, which require precise temperature control, due to its ability to operate in vapor phase. It combines low viscosity, low vapor pressure, good thermal conductivity and exceptional thermal stability for consistent performance.
