Liquefied Natural Gas has become an important part of the global energy supply chain. Also, GOI proposes to increase the share of natural gas in the primary energy mix of the country from 6% to 15%. This increase in demand for natural gas shall be primarily met by imported LNG. Thus, the Indian market offers a strong business rationale for expanding and building new LNG import infrastructure.
Government of India has constituted Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) under PNGRB Act 2006, to regulate the transportation and distribution of Natural Gas in India.
PNGRB has authorized GSPL India Transco Ltd. (GITL) and GSPL India Gasnet Ltd (GIGL) for the construction of the following three cross country Gas Pipeline projects
GITL and GIGL are two Joint Venture Companies partnering with Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) holding 52% equity, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) - 26%, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) – 11% & Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) – 11%.
GITL will construct approx. 1746 Km Cross Country Natural Gas Pipeline to transport Natural Gas from Krishna Godawari basin in Andhra Pradesh, East Coast of India and also from Chittorgarh to Vijaipur traversing through four states and will cater to all the demand centres en route of Andhra Pradesh (6 Dist.), Maharashtra (4 Dist.), Madhya Pradesh (14 Dist.) and Rajasthan (1 Dist.)
GIGL will construct approx. 1,670 km cross country natural gas pipeline from Mehsana in North Gujarat to Bhatinda in Punjab (MBPL) and approx. 740 km cross country natural gas pipeline from Bhatinda to Srinagar (BJSPL) along with associated spur lines.
